Hester Peirce Resigns as SEC Commissioner: Crypto Industry Loses Ally
SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce, known for her support of the crypto industry, has resigned from her position effective October 2, 2026. In a post on X, Peirce announced her departure with a photo of her resignation letter and the caption 'T minus 7.'
The letter describes serving at the SEC as 'the honor of my professional lifetime' and expresses confidence in the agency's ability to strike a balance under Chairmen Paul Atkins and Mark Uyeda. Peirce was appointed by President Donald Trump on January 11, 2018, and served for nearly nine years.
Despite her industry nickname 'Crypto Mom,' Peirce has stated that she sees herself as a 'freedom maximalist' rather than an advocate for the crypto industry. In November, she will join Regent University School of Law as an associate professor teaching securities regulation and digital assets.
