A public hearing on data center regulations in Hopkinsville, Kentucky is set for September 28. The meeting will be the second opportunity for local residents to discuss and comment on regulation proposals for potential data centers. Staff from the Community and Development Services department are working on a zoning ordinance that will be forwarded to the Hopkinsville City Council for consideration.

North Campbell Land Co., owner of a cryptocurrency mining operation inside the Hopkinsville Electric System's Holland Substation, proposes to convert the existing 15-megawatt facility from bitcoin mining to other computing work. The company also wants to construct a second 50-megawatt data center at another site in Hopkinsville, with plans to cover the estimated $8 million to $10 million cost of building a new substation.

The Sept. 28 hearing will be conducted in HCC Auditorium Building, and it follows a first CDS hearing on July 28 where local residents learned about the existing cryptocurrency mining operation.
