Hoskinson Renews Call for Gemini to List ADA
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has once again called on Gemini to list ADA, the native cryptocurrency of the Cardano blockchain. Hoskinson's latest plea came after Gemini co-founder Tyler Winklevoss celebrated the exchange's 11th anniversary on X, prompting Hoskinson to simply reply, "List ADA."
Despite adding numerous cryptocurrencies over the years, Gemini has yet to include ADA among its supported assets. The exchange currently lists major proof-of-stake cryptocurrencies like Solana (SOL), Avalanche (AVAX), Polkadot (DOT), Cosmos (ATOM), and Tezos (XTZ), but not ADA. Gemini's listing policy considers factors such as maturity, liquidity, market demand, utility, regulatory considerations, cybersecurity risks, and control concentration, but Cardano supporters remain puzzled by the absence of ADA.
Hoskinson has been advocating for ADA's inclusion on Gemini for years. In December 2022, amid Gemini's struggles with crypto lender Genesis, he humorously suggested that not listing ADA might be linked to bankruptcy and reckless behavior. Later, during a Twitter Spaces chat, he joked that not being listed on Gemini or FTX might have been a blessing in disguise. In September 2024, Hoskinson even stood next to Gemini's booth holding a sign that read "Wen ADA?"
By 2025, Hoskinson's frustration grew, and he accused Gemini of being the last major exchange not trading ADA. He estimated that Gemini had missed out on approximately $70 million in revenue over five years due to this decision, while competitors like Binance and Coinbase benefited from ADA trading.
