XRP Faces Key Catalysts but Traders Stay Cautious
XRP is entering a pivotal period in October, but the price has shown little reaction despite three major upcoming catalysts. The cryptocurrency traded near $1.50 as of Tuesday, with key events on the horizon. Evernorth is set to begin trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker XRPN on October 8, following the closure of its business combination with Armada Acquisition Corp. II on October 7. This move is expected to bring about $300 million in gross cash proceeds and position Evernorth to hold roughly 473 million XRP at closing.
The Nasdaq listing could enhance institutional access to XRP, but traders remain cautious. While Evernorth CEO Asheesh Birla highlighted the listing as a 'regulated, transparent way to own XRP exposure,' the direct impact on XRP demand is uncertain. Investors will buy shares in Evernorth rather than XRP directly, which may explain the subdued market reaction.
Two XRP Ledger upgrades, PermissionDelegationV1_1 and BatchV1_1, could activate around October 8 and October 9, respectively, if validator support remains strong. PermissionDelegationV1_1 would allow accounts to delegate specific powers, useful for banks and custodians. BatchV1_1 would enable grouping transactions, simplifying delivery-versus-payment processes. However, activation is not guaranteed, as losing validator support resets the timeline.
Despite the upcoming catalysts, traders are adopting a wait-and-see approach. Analysts note little change in large-holder balances and subdued derivatives positioning. CryptoQuant analyst R3N observed that Binance XRP open interest stands at about $516.6 million, far below previous highs, indicating a cautious market. While there is potential for a move if XRP closes above $1.53, traders are not aggressively positioning ahead of the events.
