HSBC RedCoin Rival to Ripple Payments?
HSBC has announced plans to launch a Hong Kong-dollar stablecoin called RedCoin, which will initially support transfers between friends and merchant payments before expanding into corporate and institutional uses.
The bank's CEO in Hong Kong, Maggie Ng, said 'Launching our coin is just the beginning' in a recent announcement. The token will be distributed through PayMe and the HSBC HK Mobile App.
RedCoin's focus on domestic transactions differs from Ripple's (XRP) role as a bridge asset for cross-border payments. However, HSBC's expansion plans raise questions about the demand for bridge assets like XRP if banks develop their own digital money.
EGRAG Crypto, an XRP bull, has presented a chart with targets of $9, $13, $17, and $27, suggesting a potential 'Face Melting Phase' for the token. However, reaching $27 would require a gain of 1,688%, which is uncertain given the current market conditions.
