HSBC has made significant strides in the digital asset space by launching its stablecoin, HSBC RedCoin, in Hong Kong. The bank's phased rollout strategy begins with person-to-person and person-to-merchant payments before expanding into corporate and institutional use cases.

The launch of HSBC RedCoin reflects a deliberate move to build trust infrastructure around stablecoins. To address this, the bank has conducted a survey among 1,000 local customers, which revealed that 74% could identify at least one stablecoin use case, with digital asset trading and tokenized investments leading the list.

The findings also highlighted what customers consider essential for building trust in stablecoins: fraud protection (53%), seamless cash conversion (51%), and reserve transparency (39%). To address these concerns, HSBC is launching a public education series across its banking apps, website, and social media to educate customers on scam prevention and transparent redemption mechanisms.
