Petrobras Tests Cardano for Tracking Sustainable Aviation Fuel Claims

Petrobras has developed a Cardano-based platform to track sustainable aviation fuel claims. The CS-SAF project links Petrobras, PUC-Rio University's Ledger Labs and the Cardano Foundation.

The CS-SAF system uses a book-and-claim model, which separates environmental benefits from physical fuel delivery. This allows buyers to purchase the sustainability benefit of certified fuel even when they cannot receive that fuel directly.

The platform checks certificates before creating tokens that represent approved fuel attributes. It then allocates tokens to airlines or passenger journeys based on emissions calculations. Once a buyer makes a claim, the system retires the token on-chain.
