Hyperliquid Burns $10M in HYPE as Price Rises on Bloomberg Boost
Hyperliquid's native token, HYPE, saw a price increase on October 5 following a significant token burn and the addition of its market data to Bloomberg Terminal. The platform burned 112,580 HYPE tokens, valued at approximately $10.15 million, which reduced the circulating supply and contributed to the price surge. At the time, HYPE was trading near $91.68, marking a 1.98% rise over 24 hours, according to CoinGlass.
The price movement was supported by two key developments: the token burn and the inclusion of Hyperliquid's perpetual markets on Bloomberg Terminal. The burn was part of Hyperliquid's protocol-funded purchases, which aim to tighten token supply. Meanwhile, the Bloomberg Terminal integration, identified as WSL HYPE, provided institutional investors with access to Hyperliquid's market data, potentially expanding its reach.
Despite the positive catalysts, risks remain due to the elevated derivatives positioning. HYPE's futures activity dominated trading, with CoinGlass reporting 24-hour futures volume near $1.46 billion compared to spot volume of $91.5 million. Open interest stood at about $3.55 billion, which could amplify volatility if traders unwind positions during sharp price swings.
Looking ahead, HYPE faces resistance around $94, followed by $97, with support levels at $89 to $90. The next potential catalysts include further token burns through the Assistance Fund and continued protocol fee generation. While Bloomberg's inclusion may enhance institutional monitoring, actual demand will dictate the token's price direction.
