Hyperliquid Open Interest Surges Past $12B on HIP-3 Momentum
Hyperliquid's open interest has surpassed $12 billion for the first time since October, according to data from Crypto Briefing. This milestone reflects renewed trader enthusiasm for on-chain derivatives, with much of the growth attributed to the platform’s HIP-3 governance proposal.
The HIP-3 proposal allows external developers to launch perpetual futures markets directly on the Hyperliquid network, broadening the range of tradable assets beyond cryptocurrencies. Notably, open interest tied to HIP-3 markets at one point exceeded $4 billion, indicating that roughly one-third of the platform’s positions now come from traders using cryptocurrency to gain exposure to traditional financial instruments such as stocks and indices.
The resurgence of Hyperliquid's open interest is more than a vanity metric. It underscores the increasing utility of decentralized exchanges (DEXs) for sophisticated trading strategies, offering non-custodial trading that means users retain control of their funds, a key selling point for traders wary of counterparty risks.
