Hyperliquid Rolls Out Native Borrowing, Taps Into Growing Stablecoin Pool

Hyperliquid has launched its native manual borrowing feature, allowing users to borrow USDC or USDT directly through HyperCore by pledging HYPE or Bitcoin as collateral. This move comes as HYPE hit a fresh all-time high above $90 on Friday, with the token trading at around $91.06 according to CryptoSlate's data.

The new product exposes lending infrastructure that had previously operated beneath Hyperliquid's portfolio-margin system, and founder Jeff Yan explained that building borrowing and lending as separate primitives allowed for more flexibility in managing risk. He compared this approach to Amazon's decision to separate its computing infrastructure into Amazon Web Services, saying 'Do one thing and do it well.'

The launch of native borrowing has immediate scale, with $269 million in assets borrowed on Friday alone. Hyperliquid's founder highlighted that this is possible because the same pools are already supporting portfolio-margin activity, giving borrowers access to over $400 million of supplied liquidity from the outset.
