Hyperliquid Surges Past $75, Outshining Bitcoin Rally
Bitcoin's surge above $78,200 has been overshadowed by the rapid growth of Hyperliquid, a decentralized perpetual futures exchange. According to research analyst Ish Asad from Bitwise Investments, Hyperliquid's success has drawn market share away from Bitcoin, allowing its HYPE token to rise over 195% this year.
The platform processed $633 billion in combined spot and perpetual futures volume during the first quarter of 2026, six times its total from the second quarter of 2024. Asad notes that Hyperliquid's popularity has 'sucked away volume' from direct purchases of smaller crypto tokens, with most trading now happening on the platform.
The price jump for Hyperliquid came after President Donald Trump mentioned his administration's efforts to bring the platform to the US in a compliant and legal fashion. Macro factors such as the Treasury Department's bond-buyback announcement and concerns over U.S. debt have also contributed to Bitcoin's recent rally, with liquidations driving its surge.
