IBIT Reaches $70 Billion as Dominant Force in Spot Bitcoin ETF Market
BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) is dominating the spot Bitcoin ETF market, holding $70 billion in assets as of March 11, 2026. This growth has been faster than that of the gold ETF, GLD. The fund reached $50 billion in December and captured $37 billion in net inflows during 2024.
The scale of IBIT's dominance is evident, with approximately 777,872 BTC worth $54.4 billion held as of March 11, 2026. This puts the fund far ahead of its peers, including Fidelity's FBTC and Grayscale's GBTC, which hold around $17 to $18 billion and $15 billion in assets respectively.
In May 2026, total net assets across all 12 Bitcoin ETFs reached over $134 billion, with IBIT accounting for roughly 60% of total spot Bitcoin ETF assets. The fund's dominance was visible in April 2026 when it captured $2.14 billion in monthly inflows.
The derivatives market for IBIT is growing, with the SEC approving a rule change to increase IBIT options position and exercise limits from 250,000 to 1,000,000 contracts. This move provides institutional traders more room to hedge or express larger views around the spot Bitcoin ETF market.
