IBM Brings Digital Asset Haven into SWIFT's Shared Ledger
IBM has established a beta connection between its Digital Asset Haven and SWIFT's shared ledger for tokenized deposits. This connection uses an ISO 20022 messaging adapter, which maps payment instructions to transactions on SWIFT's permissioned ledger.
The adapter allows institutions to use standard payment messages they already exchange to test transfers of bank-issued tokenized deposits. IBM says that participating clients can move digital assets around the clock through the ledger, with final settlement still using existing mechanisms.
SWIFT announced in July that its ledger was ready for initial use, with 17 banks preparing to pilot live tokenized-deposit transactions in a controlled rollout. IBM's announcement adds Haven as a beta route into this effort.
In addition to the cloud-based connection, IBM has also released an on-premises beta for institutions that want to run Haven in their own data centers. This option uses the same architecture and APIs as Haven's SaaS and hybrid deployments, giving regulated institutions direct control over the infrastructure used for custody and transaction management.
