IBM Swift Integration Threatens XRP Investors Amid Ripple USD Surge
IBM's Digital Asset Haven platform has successfully integrated with the Swift network, allowing banks to make tokenized deposits on its blockchain ledger. This development is seen as a potential threat to XRP investors, who rely on the cryptocurrency as a bridge between currencies for international payments.
The idea behind XRP investments is that banks would use it as a quick and efficient way to transfer funds between different currencies. However, Swift's new integration with IBM's platform offers a more bank-friendly solution, allowing institutions to move their own money on a ledger they already share.
Ripple, the company behind XRP, is also leaning away from its own token, as it reports soaring payment volumes and considers an initial public offering (IPO). Ripple Labs is increasingly settling transactions with the Ripple USD (RLUSD) stablecoin, leaving volatile XRP pricing out of the process.
IBM's real prize in this partnership may not be the digital-asset tool itself, but rather the on-premises version of Digital Asset Haven, which runs only on IBM Z mainframes and LinuxONE servers. This offering is expected to help IBM's sales team sell computing capacity or maintenance contract renewals to global banks.
