Illinois Delays Crypto Tax Until July 2027 Amid Industry Objections
The state of Illinois has agreed to delay its 0.2% crypto transaction tax until July 1, 2027, after industry plaintiffs and the state asked a court for a six-month extension.
The original deadline was set for January 1, but crypto groups argued that it would require millions of dollars in compliance spending.
The proposed rules from Illinois' Department of Revenue explain how the levy could cover stablecoins and some fee-based wallet transfers, while excluding non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
