IMF Clears El Salvador's Public Funds Use for Bitcoin Purchases
El Salvador's use of public funds for Bitcoin purchases has been cleared by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The IMF confirmed that all Bitcoin bought by El Salvador since June 27, 2025, was funded through private donations and not taxpayer money.
The confirmation came as part of a staff-level agreement covering the combined second and third reviews of El Salvador's Extended Fund Facility, which carries a total funding access of approximately $1.4 billion.
The review could unlock an additional $140 million, pending approval from the IMF's Executive Board.
