IMF Orders Ghana to Regulate Crypto Market by 2026
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has urged Ghana to develop comprehensive rules for its crypto market by December 2026. The current recommendations and regulations in place do not provide sufficient oversight, according to the IMF.
The fund recommended that the country's authorities establish specific requirements for activities such as crypto trading, brokerage services, and lending. This includes developing a transitional regime to ensure consumer protection, market integrity, and financial stability.
Ghana's regulatory regime is planned to be launched in December 2026, with some market participants expected to seek licenses due to the size and dynamics of the country's crypto market.
