Indian Bitcoin Prices Diverge by Up to $220 on WazirX, CoinDCX, and CoinSwitch
The price of Bitcoin on Indian exchanges is showing wide variations, with differences of up to $220 between the highest and lowest prices. On September 30th, Bitcoin was trading at about $83,198 on WazirX, $83,038.80 on CoinDCX, and $82,981.40 on CoinSwitch.
The price gaps are mainly due to thin liquidity and low trading volume on Indian exchanges compared to global markets like Binance or Coinbase. The order books of Bitcoin on these exchanges are significantly shallower, with fewer resting orders, making it easier for moderately sized market buy or sell orders to eat through several price levels.
This creates persistent micro-gaps that can be exploited by arbitrage traders who profit from temporary price differences across exchanges. However, these opportunities come with risks, including transaction fees, transfer delays, and India's 1% TDS tax, which can reduce or eliminate potential profits.
