Indian Crypto Market Sees Surge in Young Users, But Most Are Not Trading

The Indian crypto market is undergoing a transformation in its user base. According to ZebPay's H1 2026 report, more young people and users from smaller cities are entering the market. While this growth may suggest an increase in active trading, 63% of users held cryptocurrencies without making a single trade during the period.

This trend indicates that new crypto traders are entering the Indian market for reasons beyond active trading. The dominance of buying activity over selling suggests that they are holding assets for long periods rather than engaging in frequent trades.

The younger generation is driving new sign-ups, with people aged 18-24 accounting for about 50% of new registrations on ZebPay. Young customers' purchasing volume was nearly 10 times higher than their selling volume, and Solana was one of the most preferred assets among this group.
