India's Central Bank Amasses $200B Short Dollar Position Amid Macro Pressures
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has accumulated a massive net short dollar position in forward contracts, reaching $200.06 billion by the end of August 2026.
This significant increase is partly attributed to diaspora deposit inflows aimed at supporting the rupee amid intense macroeconomic pressures.
The decline of the Nifty by 6% and foreign investors' sale of ₹10,148 crore have also contributed to this trend.
For Indian cryptocurrency traders, tracking the USD/INR pair has become just as crucial as monitoring Bitcoin price charts, as rupee volatility directly affects INR-based crypto returns and market risk.
