India's Crypto Tax Remains Unchanged Amid New VDA Framework

India's new Virtual Digital Assets (VDA) framework took effect on April 1, 2026, but it hasn't changed the country's crypto tax rates. The Income Tax Department has clarified that the 30% tax on VDA gains and a 1% TDS will remain unchanged.

Section 285BAA of the new framework imposes reporting requirements on prescribed entities, including penalties for delayed or inaccurate submissions. This increased regulatory burden could potentially dampen adoption and fundraising in the Indian crypto market.
