The Indian government's Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) will appear before Parliament's Finance Committee on September 16, 2026, to discuss Virtual Digital Assets (VDAs) and crypto regulation.

The committee is working on a report titled 'A Study on Virtual Digital Assets (VDAs) and Way Forward,' which will likely shape the country's future regulatory roadmap for VDAs.

Industry experts have noted that India's current VDA framework combines taxation and anti-money laundering obligations with a less comprehensive market-structure regime, leaving trading platforms, asset classification, custody standards, protection of investors, and redressal of grievances in a regulatory grey area.
