Indonesia's Crypto Market Surges Past 22 Million Registered Accounts
The Indonesian crypto market has experienced explosive growth, surpassing 22 million registered accounts as of July 2026. This represents a significant increase from 20.19 million at the end of 2025. The country's total trading turnover reached Rp 171.12 trillion ($10.76 billion) in the first seven months of 2026.
The growth is largely attributed to the adoption of stablecoins, which have become everyday utility tools for cross-border freelancing, remittances, and digital commerce. Gen Z investors aged 18-24 make up 51.8% of domestic market activity, with younger demographics commanding the market.
Regulators are pushing beyond speculative trading toward tokenized real-world assets, while racing to close literacy deficits and security vulnerabilities. The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has leveraged its regulatory sandbox to test tokenized physical gold, government debt securities, commercial real estate, domestic stablecoins, and institutional crypto funds.
According to Chainalysis's Global Crypto Adoption Index 2026, Indonesia ranks 14th worldwide in grassroots transaction activity. The country has become a crucial test case for grassroots digital asset penetration, accelerating the deployment of blockchain architecture into everyday commerce.
