Institutions Flock to Crypto as Universal Conviction Asset
Bitwise Asset Management released its Institutional Crypto Adoption report, which found that institutional investors are increasingly embracing cryptocurrency as an important component of their portfolios. The study drew from in-depth interviews with senior investment professionals at 15 of the world's largest institutions, including endowments, foundations, public pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, multi-family offices, investment consultants, and public companies.
The report found that institutional crypto capital proved sticky through a 50% drawdown between Q4 2025 and Q2 2026. Not one institution interviewed reduced its allocation over this period, and several bought more. No institution named a price decline as a reason it would sell.
Bitcoin emerged as the universal institutional conviction asset, with every institution interviewed that owns cryptocurrency holding Bitcoin as their first, largest, and longest-held crypto asset. Most institutions framed Bitcoin as a store of value and frequently paired it explicitly with gold as a fiat debasement hedge.
