Bitcoin's price surpassed $75,000 on August 21st, marking its highest level since early June. The rally was fueled by institutional buying during the second-quarter selloff, with major investors absorbing part of the selling pressure.

According to 13F filings, institutions increased their exposure to Bitcoin by 7.5% in Q2, rising from approximately 498,389 BTC to 535,723 BTC. This growth represented a significant shift in ownership, as institutions' share of total Bitcoin held by U.S. spot ETFs rose from 38.4% to 44.2%

The largest additions came from market makers, banks, and quantitative firms, including Jane Street, JPMorgan, Bank of America, and Renaissance Technologies. BlackRock's IBIT remained the primary destination for institutional buying.

Jane Street was the most aggressive buyer in Q2, increasing its ordinary IBIT position by over 300% to 24.88 million shares, worth approximately $828 million. JPMorgan also increased its ordinary spot Bitcoin ETF holdings from 8.46 million shares to 10.62 million.

Despite institutional buying, some tactical funds reduced their exposure to Bitcoin during Q2. Millennium, Brevan Howard, Citadel, and Macquarie all decreased their positions. However, sovereign wealth funds and university endowments maintained their core allocations.
