Iran Targets Crypto Exchanges Over Tether Market Manipulation Claims

Share

The Iranian Central Bank is planning to block rial accounts and payment gateways belonging to some cryptocurrency exchanges, according to reports from the IRGC-affiliated Fars news agency.

The move targets exchanges accused of placing artificial orders in the Tether market, disrupting the pricing of the dollar-linked cryptocurrency and Iran's broader foreign-exchange market.

This comes as the rial has fallen to record lows against the dollar amid mounting pressure on Iran's economy.
