Jay Clayton Appointed AI Czar as Trump's Super Intelligence Force Takes Shape
Jay Clayton, the former chair of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has been appointed as the AI Czar by President Trump. Clayton will lead a new 'Super Intelligence Force' and spend the next 120 days assessing the risks and opportunities of artificial intelligence (AI).
This appointment is notable given Clayton's past views on digital assets. In 2022, he stated that digital assets would become part of global financial infrastructure, and in 2023, he predicted the emergence of programmable assets and interoperability. Since then, the SEC and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) have shifted their regulatory approach, treating several major crypto assets as digital commodities rather than securities.
