Kalshi's Commodity Trading Volume Surges Past Crypto

Share

Kalshi's prediction market platform has seen explosive growth in commodity trading volume, outpacing early cryptocurrency adoption. In just seven months since launch, Kalshi's monthly commodities trading volume reached over $400 million, more than four times that of cryptocurrencies at the same point.

The company attributes this strong performance to a boom in retail trading, which has pushed Kalshi to introduce commodity prediction markets for products such as oil, gas, and metals. This move has helped the platform explore newer asset classes, significantly boosting trading volumes.

Kalshi's co-founder Tarek Mansour notes that improved liquidity on the platform has been a major factor in the commodities trading business' success. 'Liquidity is very hard to get off the ground because of how many people you need participating actively,' he said, adding that the platform's diverse and large participation pool now allows it to start new categories much faster.
