Kalshi’s Ether Perpetuals Draw CFTC Scrutiny Amid Unusual Trading Activity
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is investigating unusual trading activity on Kalshi's Ether perpetual futures contracts. Analysts found a pattern of repetitive, fixed-size orders clustering tightly around the same price levels.
Kalshi launched its Ether perpetual futures on June 4, 2026, and within two weeks generated over $5.5 billion in cumulative volume. The data shows that between 47% and 63% of notional volume on various days in September consisted of trades fixed almost exclusively at values between $5,499 and $5,500.
The CFTC review is significant because Kalshi occupies a regulated territory in the US crypto market structure. The platform offers perpetual futures contracts, making it one of the first US-licensed platforms to do so.
