Kazakhstan Crypto Miners Push to Abolish Billion-Dollar Electricity Tax
Crypto miners in Kazakhstan are pushing to scrap a billion-dollar tax on electricity consumption.
According to Daniyar Mubarakov, president of the Blockchain and Crypto Mining Association, the 2 tenge-per-kilowatt-hour tax ($0.0045) should be abolished.
Mubarakov argues that with an expected electricity surplus by 2027, miners can be reclassified as standard wholesale consumers, eliminating the need for a quota-based allocation framework and a separate tax rate.
The existing regulatory framework allows authorities to monitor the industry's production metrics, ensure transparency, and collect tax revenue.
