Kazakhstan's Crypto Miners Deliver Billions in Bitcoin Output Amid New Regulations
Kazakhstan has become a significant player in the global cryptocurrency mining scene. Between 2023 and May 2026, licensed miners produced approximately 7,200 Bitcoin, with the highest annual output recorded in 2024 at around 3,400 BTC.
The country's Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development cited EnergyProm, which stated that production totaled about 2,300 BTC in 2025 and 519.5 BTC during the first five months of 2026.
Kazakhstan has a significant number of registered mining entities, with 78 listed, and over 465,000 mining devices in its national equipment registry.
The mining industry contributed around $75 million to the state budget between 2023 and 2025 through tax revenue. The new rules governing strategic digital mining came into force on August 1, allowing eligible miners to receive stable electricity supplies at capped tariffs in exchange for transferring 10% of their cryptocurrency output to the state.
The authorities have also legalized cryptocurrency mining powered by electricity generated from associated petroleum gas at oil and gas fields, which could promote more efficient use of energy resources while encouraging investment in the regions.
