Knoxville Woman Indicted for Laundering Unemployment Benefits through Bitcoin ATMs

A 62-year-old Knoxville woman has been accused of laundering COVID-19 unemployment insurance benefits through Bitcoin ATMs. According to a report, Amy Denise Fields applied for fake benefits from multiple states using her name, address, and bank accounts during the pandemic.

Once she received the cash, it was deposited into Bitcoin ATMs to conceal its origin. This practice is allegedly in violation of federal laws.

Fields faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. Tennessee banned cryptocurrency ATMs from operating within the state in April 2026, becoming the second state after Indiana to do so.
