Kraken Hits 7 Million Funded Accounts Amid Financial Expansion Push
Kraken, the prominent cryptocurrency exchange, now boasts approximately 7 million funded accounts globally, according to co-CEO Arjun Sethi. This figure, which represents accounts holding actual funds rather than just sign-ups, highlights the platform's significant growth. As of September 2026, the count was around 6.6 million, up from 5.7 million at the end of 2025, reflecting a 42% year-over-year growth.
The exchange manages between $40 billion and $50 billion in customer assets, a notable increase from $48.2 billion at the end of 2025. Operating in over 190 countries and territories, Kraken's reach is extensive. Its parent company, Payward, reported $2.2 billion in adjusted revenue for 2025, a 33% increase from the previous year, with total transaction volume hitting $2.0 trillion, up 34% year over year.
Kraken is evolving beyond a traditional crypto exchange, aiming to become a comprehensive financial infrastructure platform. This transformation includes expanding into trading, banking, asset management, and institutional services. Recent acquisitions, such as NinjaTrader for $1.5 billion and Bitnomial for $550 million, support this strategy. The platform is also introducing new products like cards, lending, derivatives, and tokenized equities, which represent traditional stocks as digital tokens.
The integration of these acquisitions and regulatory compliance across multiple countries present challenges. However, Kraken's scale and long-standing presence in crypto, with $48.2 billion in assets and $2.0 trillion in annual volume, position it strongly in these discussions.
