Kujira Nears Dolphin, Raising Interaction Risk

A low-pressure area east of the Philippines is intensifying and expected to develop into Tropical Depression Kujira, which will be named as such when it reaches tropical storm strength. This system is currently forecasted to move northwards before weakening under the influence of nearby Super Typhoon Dolphin.

Forecasters caution that the two cyclones are likely to interact in a Fujiwhara interaction, where they rotate around a shared axis due to their proximity. However, given the stark difference in intensity, Kujira is expected to weaken and be absorbed by Dolphin.

The current track guidance suggests that Dolphin will reach Okinawa as a strong typhoon on Friday, 7th August, before tending towards the East China Sea thereafter.
