L2 Networks Dominate Ethereum Transactions as Capital Flows In
Ethereum's ecosystem is showing significant momentum, with Layer 2 (L2) networks and decentralized finance (DeFi) tokens outperforming major crypto sectors. According to blockchain data, L2s now handle approximately 94% of all transactions across the combined Ethereum L1 and L2 ecosystem.
The biggest networks are attracting more capital, with Base securing about $14.51 billion and Arbitrum holding roughly $12.47 billion. Robinhood Chain has seen its secured value increase by over 150% in just 30 days, climbing to $2.8 billion. This growth is spilling into token markets, with ARB surging more than 120%, aided by accelerating activity around Robinhood Chain.
DeFi activity is moving to L2s, but the money remains concentrated on Ethereum mainnet. Over the past 30 days, Ethereum L2s processed approximately 337 million DeFi transactions, representing around 99% of combined Ethereum L1 and L2 DeFi transaction activity. Uniswap alone generated more than 57 million L2 transactions during that period.
As a result, the Ethereum ecosystem is increasingly split into two complementary roles: L2 networks handle activity, while Ethereum mainnet remains the capital and settlement layer.
