Lagarde Allegedly Intervened in Binance's Greek MiCA Licence Bid

European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde intervened in Binance's attempt to secure a Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, or MiCA, licence in Greece. The alleged intervention surfaced nearly three months after Binance withdrew its application from Greece's Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC). According to the Wall Street Journal report summarized by CoinDesk, Lagarde asked Greek officials to delay or block approval of the exchange's application.

The reported request was linked to a prospective shift of supervisory authority to the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA). However, it remains unclear whether such a transfer had taken effect. The ECB spokesperson declined to comment on the allegation.
