$LAPTOP Meme Coin Launches as Hunter Biden Taps Crypto Market

Hunter Biden, son of US President Joe Biden, is launching a meme coin called $LAPTOP in the cryptocurrency market. The token is scheduled to launch on Base, Coinbase's blockchain network, on Tuesday. Hunter Biden promoted the planned launch in a video posted to social media, which was compiled from news clips and politicians discussing the infamous laptop.

The laptop became a flashpoint during the 2020 presidential campaign, with Republicans later citing material from it as they investigated Hunter Biden's foreign business dealings. In his July Substack post, Hunter Biden acknowledged that the laptop contained records from a period when he was struggling with addiction and challenged its provenance and chain of custody.

The $LAPTOP coin appears to be aimed in part at President Donald Trump, a longtime political foe of the Biden family. Meme coins are cryptocurrencies typically driven by online attention and speculation rather than an underlying product or business.
