LayerZero Labs Compromises Wyoming's State-Backed Stablecoin Project
A serious security breach has been uncovered in Wyoming's state-backed stablecoin project, FRNT. According to reports, LayerZero Labs repeatedly failed in its operational security processes, resulting in a loss of control over a critical multisig private key used for managing the live production environment.
The Wyoming assessment revealed 'recurring serious operational security failures' by LayerZero Labs, including failing to delegate authorization for its production environment to the Wyoming Stable Token Commission. Investigations also found that the company did not maintain necessary control over the critical private key and failed to disclose information about both public and private security incidents.
The security history of LayerZero Labs has been deemed unacceptable by Wyoming, which is responsible for securing state-backed digital assets. As a result, the state moved its FRNT infrastructure away from LayerZero and switched to Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) infrastructure for cross-chain messaging and transfer processes.
