LayerZero Sued for Record-Breaking $292 Million Exploit

KelpDAO has filed a lawsuit against LayerZero and its co-founder, accusing them of being responsible for the largest exploit of this year. The incident occurred on April 22 when a North Korean hack group allegedly attacked KelpDAO's cross-chain bridge, draining $292 million worth of rsETH.

The attack had significant aftershocks in stablecoin markets, with Aave borrowing $300 million to meet increasing user demand for asset withdrawals. This event also erased $20 billion in total value locked (TVL) from the DeFi ecosystem, exposing structural risks still present according to experts at JPMorgan.

KelpDAO has taken steps to ensure user assets are safe and protected, including migrating rsETH's bridge to a more secure cross-chain security standard. However, they also seek to hold LayerZero and Mr. Pellegrino accountable for the harm caused.
