LayerZero's ZRO Token Rallies 41% Amid Buybacks and ATLAS Hype
LayerZero's native token, ZRO, has surged roughly 41% over the past week, reaching around $2.13. This rally coincides with reports of another ZRO buyback and rising derivatives activity. LayerZero repurchased 162,000 ZRO, worth approximately $347,000, bringing its cumulative open-market purchases to 2.538 million tokens. The buybacks are part of a strategy to support the token's price, particularly as the project's ATLAS system approaches launch.
The technical indicators suggest strong momentum, with the weekly Relative Strength Index (RSI) near 68 and ZRO trading above its upper Bollinger Band. However, this rapid move could lead to consolidation if buying pressure slows. For the breakout to continue, ZRO needs to establish support above the recent high of $2.18, $2.20, with $3 being the next psychological target.
Derivatives activity has also increased, with futures open interest near $279 million, indicating growing leveraged trading. Additionally, the next ZRO unlock is scheduled for October 20, which could introduce additional supply into the market. Analyst Pentoshi described ZRO as having a 'great weekly chart' and highlighted the improved fundamentals with ATLAS's upcoming launch.
LayerZero's ATLAS system, set to launch later this year, could create another source of demand for ZRO. The system will allocate 75% of post-venue fees to buying and burning ZRO tokens, further supporting its price. Despite the positive outlook, traders should remain cautious, as the market remains volatile and subject to rapid changes.
