Litecoin Soars 47% as Grayscale Filing Ignites Interest
Litecoin (LTC) has seen a significant surge in value over the past month, increasing by 47% while Bitcoin (BTC) has risen by around 7%. One possible reason for this discrepancy is Grayscale's recent filing to convert its Litecoin trust into an ETF. However, it's also worth noting that Litecoin had previously suffered larger declines than Bitcoin and is now making a stronger rebound.
The current market capitalization of Litecoin is approximately $5.7 billion, which is significantly smaller than Bitcoin's $1.69 trillion. This smaller size means that even minor investments can greatly impact Litecoin's price. Additionally, Litecoin has more room to recover having dropped 31% over the past year compared to Bitcoin's decline of 23%
Grayscale's filing on September 11 has sparked interest in Litecoin, but it's essential to consider that the existing spot ETF has only $8.6 million in net assets as of September 22. The total U.S. Litecoin funds hold a record 175,000 LTC valued at around $13 million according to Glassnode.
Open interest in futures contracts for Litecoin has surged to about $670 million, nearly reaching the January peak of $690 million. This suggests that traders are taking on more leveraged positions, which can amplify gains but also increases the risk of sharp price reversals.
