MARA Posts $611 Million Loss Amid Bitcoin Price Volatility
MARA Holdings Inc., which operates as a Bitcoin miner and power infrastructure provider, posted a net loss of $611 million in its second-quarter earnings report. The company's revenue fell 27% year-over-year to $174.88 million, while it mined 2,422 Bitcoin without making any additional purchases during the quarter.
The significant drop in MARA's Bitcoin holdings value led to a 29% decline in its balance sheet from the same period last year, totaling 35,577 Bitcoin. This pattern is not new for MARA, as it previously recorded a $1.26 billion loss in the first quarter of 2026 after selling $1.5 billion worth of Bitcoin.
The company's pivot toward artificial intelligence infrastructure has been ongoing, with MARA operating 19 data centers across four continents and recently acquiring rights to a 2-gigawatt powered land site in Texas. MARA views its AI infrastructure efforts as complementary to its Bitcoin mining operations, rather than competing endeavors.
