Marathon Digital Expands Texas Facility, Rebuilds Bitcoin Treasury
Marathon Digital Holdings has expanded its Granbury facility in Texas to reach 30 EH/s of hash rate, thanks to the successful transition to immersion cooling. This upgrade is expected to lower costs and improve efficiency by replacing traditional air cooling.
The company also completed construction of a sound wall to mitigate noise from mining operations, which has been a concern for local residents in Hood County. While the technical efficiency gains are impressive, social friction remains an operational hurdle.
Residents have reported health issues such as vertigo and headaches due to the mining noise, despite independent sound studies confirming that operations remain below legal sound limits.
In addition to the Granbury expansion, Marathon Digital is rebuilding its Bitcoin treasury after accumulating 12,000 BTC in September. This move mirrors MicroStrategy's playbook of aggressive treasury management and aims to regain momentum lost during spring market volatility.
The company previously used proceeds from a $1.5 billion Bitcoin sale to reduce debt and refinance obligations, but this new accumulation strategy is focused on regaining the balance sheet before potential demand cycles.
