The Marshall County Sheriff's Office is alerting residents to a rising scam involving cryptocurrency. Scammers are posing as law enforcement officers, claiming that individuals have outstanding warrants or missed jury duty. They then demand payment through a Bitcoin machine, often threatening fines or arrest if the victim does not comply.

Officials emphasize that this is a fraudulent scheme and urge people never to deposit cash into a Bitcoin machine to resolve such claims. The sheriff's office also warns that scammers may manipulate caller IDs to display official phone numbers, making the calls appear legitimate.

Law enforcement officials stress that they will never call to demand payment over the phone, threaten legal action, or ask for personal information. Anyone who receives such a call should hang up immediately and contact the sheriff's office directly to verify the claim.
