Mastercard and Alchemy Unveil AI-Powered Shopping Feature with AgentCard
Mastercard has collaborated with Alchemy to integrate its agentic payment system with the AgentCard platform. The integration enables AI agents to shop autonomously on users' behalf, operating within cardholder-defined spending limits and merchant allowlists.
The AI-powered shopping feature employs 'agentic tokens' issued by banks to ensure purchases remain within predefined parameters. Alchemy had previously integrated its AgentCard framework with Visa in June.
Mastercard shares showed minimal movement following the announcement, rising approximately 0.15% during trading. Alchemy remains privately held and has not provided comment on the integration.
Jorn Lambert, Mastercard's Chief Product Officer, expressed confidence in the technology's trajectory, stating 'We believe it's not about if, it's about when and how quickly.' The company is expanding its technology sector collaborations, with previous partnerships including Microsoft and IBM.
