Mastercard Lands Major Stablecoin Deal with BVNK Acquisition
Mastercard has made its largest cryptocurrency investment to date by acquiring BVNK, a London-based stablecoin infrastructure firm. The company was purchased for up to $1.8 billion, outbidding rival Coinbase's offer of $2.5 billion.
The acquisition marks Mastercard's most significant move in integrating cryptocurrency payments into its existing financial frameworks. BVNK has built a robust business model linking traditional fiat payment systems with digital assets and stablecoin infrastructures, operating in over 130 countries with more than 40 regulatory licenses.
Founded in 2021, BVNK's acquisition is significant as it marks the largest transaction focused on stablecoin infrastructure to date. The deal also intensifies competition with Visa, which has been pursuing similar investments in stablecoins.
