McCracken County Sheriff Warns Residents of Bitcoin Scam and Bond Schemes

The McCracken County Sheriff's Office in Kentucky has issued warnings about two separate scams targeting residents.

The first scam involves a bitcoin scheme where scammers call victims, claiming they missed jury duty and have a federal warrant out for their arrest. They then ask the victim to deposit money into a bitcoin machine to remove the warrant, with sums totaling thousands of dollars.

The sheriff's office has received several calls about this scam, which is carried out by scammers calling from restricted phone numbers multiple times a day. The agency emphasized that law enforcement will not request funds, banking information or personal details by phone.

In addition to the bitcoin scam, there have also been scams targeting the families of incarcerated individuals. Scammers claim that the family member can be bonded out if the victim purchases preloaded Visa cards, loads the cards with money and then provides the scammer with the card information.
