Meme Coin Scams and Uniswap Pools Pose High Risks for Investors

The risks associated with meme coins and Uniswap V4 pools have increased significantly for investors. Recently, popular cryptocurrency influencers @insidecalls and @cladzsol reported losing approximately $600,000 in assets after being scammed by a fake 'Cloudflare verification' prompt on a meme coin's homepage.

The scam redirected users to a phishing link, which downloaded malicious scripts that executed on their systems, resulting in asset loss. This phenomenon is now common due to delayed review processes on major trading aggregation platforms like DexScreener, which can be exploited by hackers to turn meme coin listing pages into new phishing hunting grounds.

Another issue affecting Uniswap V4 pools is the presence of malicious contracts. 0x released an analysis report titled 'Uniswap v4 Hooks Were a Mistake,' which found that over half (54.2%) of hooks across six chains were malicious, and another 26.4% were suspected to be malicious.

These malicious activities result in retail investors losing money, with as much as $200 being siphoned into hook addresses when purchasing $1,000 worth of a token. To protect themselves, retail traders can set low slippage and confirm the 'Minimum Received Amount' before making transactions.
