MetaMask has announced that it is exiting Ethereum validators after a security incident compromised its staking infrastructure. According to the company, no immediate threat to users' MetaMask wallets has been identified.

Lido, a decentralized liquid staking protocol for Ethereum, confirmed that MetaMask Staking infrastructure was compromised. MetaMask is shutting down and exiting the affected Ethereum validators used in its non-custodial staking operation.

The company has not disclosed what was compromised or how the attacker gained access, but has stated that it has identified no immediate threat to wallets. The investigation is ongoing with outside security advisers.

Affected validators are expected to leave the active set by October 7, 2026. MetaMask reminds users that it does not hold the withdrawal keys for clients' staked ETH.
