MetaMask Exits Staking After Security Incident: Contagion Fears Rise
According to Lido, one of MetaMask's partners, the validator exit is expected to end by October 7th, and normal resumption of operations is anticipated in about 45 days due to a long validator entry queue.
Lido Protocol has assured that users' funds are safe and their private keys were not compromised. Aave CEO Stani Kulechov also stated that Aave markets are unaffected by the incident, while Ethena founder Guy Young confirmed that USDe backing assets do not have direct exposure to stETH or other liquid staking tokens.
Analysts have compared the situation to last year's Kiln incident, which forced validators offline and resulted in a $41M loss. The incident has raised concerns about potential contagion risks in the DeFi space.
